Keratin

Body's own protein

Keratin is a fibrous insoluble protein that occurs naturally in every person. It is mainly found in the hair, nails and epidermis (the outer layer of the skin). Thanks to the keratin, the skin is tough and has a water-repellent effect. The cells in the skin that contain keratin are constantly replaced by new cells. Unfortunately, this is not the case for the hair. Due to external influences (including many hair treatments such as blow drying, straightening with a flat iron and hair dye), the hair can lose the keratin. Although it ensures that the space is filled with moisture, the hair feels dry and fragile. As a result, the hair falls out or breaks off after a while. The lost keratin in the hair can be replenished with a keratin treatment. This makes the hair strong again and makes it shine.

Keratin treatment

A keratin treatment replenishes the lost keratin in the hair. This makes the hair healthier, softer and shinier. The hair also looks more beautiful. Just like the skin, keratin also ensures that the hair is stronger and does not dry out quickly.

Types of treatments

There are two common types of treatments. The Brazilian keratin treatment and the Japanese keratin treatment. The Brazilian keratin treatment makes the hair smoother and less frizzy. The hair looks much healthier due to the treatment and is beautifully in shape. However, it does not straighten the hair. Unlike some people think, keratin itself does not straighten the hair. Although, because the hair is in good shape, it can appear steeper. The supplemented keratin will be gradually broken down, just like the naturally present keratin. The Japanese keratin treatment ensures that the hair is permanently straight (except for regrowth, which must be re-treated). The hair is first pretreated with keratin, after which it is heated with a flat iron. This changes the structure of the hair, resulting in straight hair. When done properly, it is a very effective treatment for curly and frizzy hair. Since keratin does not have the ability to straighten the hair, chemical products are often added. These products can cause formaldehyde gas to be released during heating. This colorless gas can cause various health problems such as irritations to the mucous membranes of the eyes, headaches and dizziness. This is the reason why many hair stylists wear a mask for such treatments. In principle, the products that NA Beauty Boutique uses do not contain formaldehyde. However, NA Beauty Boutique ensures that the room is well ventilated and that the hairstylist and the customer both wear a mask to limit the risks.

Duration and result

A basic keratin treatment takes about 1.5 to 4 hours. The duration of the treatment depends on the length of the hair and the hair type. The hair is treated tuft by tuft. It is wise to contact NA Beauty Boutique first before scheduling an appointment to avoid unexpected disappointments. The effects of a keratin treatment will last for an average of 4 months.

Aftercare

After a keratin treatment has taken place, the hair should be cared for. The most important aftercare measure is the use of sulfate-free care products such as sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners. Sulfate (salt) ensures that the hair dries, so that the effect of the keratin is lost.

Price
